Maine oil tank art project

Representatives of the Maine Center for Creativity have announced some very interesting and unusual competition. The competition is called ,,The Art All Around". An aim of this competition is to create painted designs on a huge oil tankers in South Portland. The reason, why this competition was announced is simple. Maine's Sprague Energy Corporation above ground storage tanks are among residents known as a ,,tank farm". They are noticeable form land, sea and air. It is a prominent feature on the Portland Harbor. Viewers can see this tank farm from many vantage points, nearly everyone who passes Portland see it, so it is a great place to display a works of art there. The huge field on this oil tanks will serve as a canvas. Sprague Energy Corporation owes more than 35 above ground tanks, 16 of then have been offered to artists as the canvas for their work of art. Eight entire tanks & tops and sidewalls and only tops on another 8 will be painted. The Maine Center for Creativity has set no entry fee for the competition. There are not some specific requirements on entrants, the competition is open to everyone, entrants from all states and countries are welcomed. All submitted visions will be judged. An features that are preferred are originality, artistic excellence, conceptualization or understanding of the site. The progress of the competition is following: 10 semifinalists have been chosen, they will be reduced on 5 finalists, This finalists will in August in Maine present their visions in a series of public forums. Each entrant is obliged to submit four JPG images. In the end, only one winner be selected. His or her vision will be applied to 16 tanks. The monetary award of 30000$ is prepared for the winner. Of course, the winner will not physically paint the tanks and will not supply the paint for the project. But each entrant must be aware, that ultimate painting on the tank can differ form submitted vision because industrial painters are not able to reproduce all intricate details.
