Hunter becoming pray

by Claudia Sonea

Nature's laws are like a boomerang and how Timberlake singes it, what goes around, comes around. Yes, it is true, no deed- good or bad- goes unpunished. So, it comes as no surprise that hunters are often getting fringed with their own weapons. In the past, it was necessary to hunt in order to survive, to feed you family or for the sake of the tribe. However, now it is only an abuse of what nature gives, so it is natural to not get away from its wrath. This is the case of James Harris, a 37 years-old amateur hunter. On Saturday afternoon he went with his friends hunting, unfortunately things did not went that well. They shot a pheasant that landed on the other side of a fence and James offered to retrieve it, so he like a smart hunter placed the gun, without the safety, on the ground, while he tried at the muzzle end to cross the fence. The gun was at a range no further than three feet when one of the hunting dogs following behind him stepped on it and the trigger trip up to 120 birdshots pellets in the left calf. He received medical care at Grinnell Regional Medical Center and later transported by helicopter to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, following the accident in Poweshiek County. According to Alan Foster, a spokesman for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources who told the story to the AFP, the injury doesn't endanger Harris' life, but will certainly bug him for a long period of time. He added that it is not something out of ordinary and that it happens frequently. Don't fool around with nature or she will get its back on you.
