Ak patríte k tým, čo ako deti snívali o cestovaní vesmírom, no ste aj veľkým gurmánom, asi vás sklamem: tieto dve veci k sebe nepasujú. Musím sa priznať, že ja patrím skôr k milovníkom dobrého jedla, ako vesmírnych lodí a cestovania na Mesiac. No verím, že je mnoho takých, ktorí skôr uprednostnia menší „výlet“ pred hamburgerom. Ak sa teda zaujímate o vesmír, astronautov a ich neobvyklé cestovné zážitky viac ako o dobré jedlo, potom kniha s názvom „Kozmonautská kuchárka – legendy, recepty a viac“ by mohla byť práve pre vás! Táto kniha sľubuje unikátny pohľad do sveta NASA, do legiend s ňou spojených, ale ponúkne aj zaujímavé informácie o stravovaní a diétach astronautov. Autori tejto kn! ihy, Charles T. Bourland a Gregory L. Vogt, pracovali dlhé roky pre NASA a majú preto množstvo skúseností s výživovými technológiami a programami tejto vládnej agentúry. Ak chcete vedieť, čo kozmonauti bežne jedia vo vesmíre, prípadne si vyskúšať aj niečo z ich jedálnička pripraviť vo vlastnej kuchyni, či sa zaujímate o históriu vesmírneho programu a metódy prípravy jedla, určite si túto knihu kúpte! No nečakajte obyčajnú kuchárku! I have to admit, that I was actually never thinking about spaceships and flying into space, I was rather the one who loves good food. And I still am. But if you are more interested in the space and life of astronauts, rather than food, then the book called “The Astronaut’s Cook book – Tales, Recipes and More” could be something for you. This book is promising unique look into NASA lore, legend, diet information and space food facts. The authors of the book, Charles T. Bourland and G! regory L. Vogt, were working for NASA and have many years of experience in NASA food technology programs. If you want to know what exactly are astronauts eating out there in the space, if you want to try to cook something from their daily meals in your own kitchen or just want to know something about the history of the space program and space food preparation methods, so then get this book! But do not expect typical cook book, as it is not. Charles Bourland, who is a retired long-time director of the NASA space food program, will share lot of funny “space stories” with you and some of them are not suitable to mention during the dinner: “Imagine if you’re sitting tight next to your buddy in a capsule, and you’re going to the bathroom while he’s trying to eat breakfast, and the odor then lingers in there for hours afterwards.” If you want to know, how this will going to continue, and with no doubt have some extraordinary fun, I would ! recommend you this book. After all, maybe one day we all will ! be livin g somewhere out there, who knows?

23 rokov žila rodina Roma Houbena s vedomím, že Rom je v kóme. Dnes sa však Rom cíti ako znovuzrodený, lekári konečne našli spôsob, ako môže komunikovať s okolitým svetom. Houbenov lekár zistil, že Houbena pred mnohými rokmi nesprávne diagnostikovali. Zatiaľ čo si jeho okolie myslelo, že je v kóme, on trpel uveznený v paralyzovanom tele. Teraz hovorí, že sa cítil sám, frustrovaný a osamelý. Dnes je schopný komukovať použitím počítačového dotykového displeja, pri ktorom mu pomáha jeho terapeutka. Naučil sa písať neuveriteľnou rýchlosťou. Belgičan Houben má teraz 46 rokov a minulý utorok s ním robila rozhovoro agentúra Associated Press. Mnohí experti však pochybujú o tom, že by bol Houben schopn! 53; komukovať na úrovni, ktorú dokazujú rozhovory. Tvrdia, že je nemožné, aby človek po závažnom zranení, ktorý navyše nebol schopný toľko rokov komunkovať, odpovedal spôsobm, akým to robil Houben. Avšak lekársky tím, ktorý má na starosti Houbenov prípad, tvrdí, že špeciálnymi testami overili, že je skutočne Houben, kto komukuje. Houben sa vážne zranil pri autohavárii v roku 1983, keď mal 20 rokov. Lekári vtedy diagnostikovali kómu, avšak teraz sa domnievajú, že bol celý čas pri vedomí. Keď experti použili špeciálny sken mozgu, ktorý je dnes už dostupný, zistili, že hoci Houben nie je schopný sa hýbať a hovoriť, vnútri rozmýšľa a uvažuje. Mnoho ľudí však stále neverí, že to skutočne píše Houben. Avšak jeho lekári to potvrdili testom, keď Houbenovi ukázali predmet, zatiaľ čo jeho terapeutka čakala vonku. Keď vošla dnu, napísal s jej pomocou presný názov ukázaného predmetu. Všetko je teda preverené a potvrdené. Jeho lek! ári a rodina sú si úplne istý, že to komunikuje skutočne Rom.

Rom Houben Trapped In His Own Body For 23 Years

For 23 years Rom Houben was believed to be in coma. Now he feels reborn because doctors has finally found a way to communicate with surrounding world. Houben's doctor found that years ago Houben was wrongly diagnosed. Instead of being in a vegetative state he was suffering in a paralyzed body saing now that he felt alone, frustrated and lonely. Now he is able to communicate by using a computer touchscreen where helped by a therapist, he can tap with incredible speed. Belgian Houben is now 46 and last Tuesday he was interviewed by Associated Television News. However, bioethicists do not believe it was Houbes who was communicating, saying that it is impossible for a person with a profound injury who could not communicate for such a long time to answer as Houben did. But the medical team which is taking care of Houben verified by special tests that it was really him communicating. Houben was seriously injured in a car crash in 1983, when he was 20. Doctors diagnosed hi! m as being in a vegetative state, now doctors believe he was conscious all the time. When an expert used a specialized type of brain scan that is nowadays available he found out that though Houben is not able to speak or move, inside he can think and reason. This fact helped the expert to provide Houben suitable equipment which helps him to communicate. Assisted by a therapist who moved his finger, Houben said he felt frustrated but also very blessed by his family. Furthermore, he wrote it was very hard for him to not be able to support his family in hard times. It is very frustrating when you cannot participate in life, he added. The speech therapist Linda Wouters told that Houben navigates her hand with gentle pressure from his fingers. Many people still do not believe it is Houben communicating. But doctors showed him an object while his helper Linda was outside and when she came back he was able to write it down correctly. Everything was checked and confirmed. Th! erefore doctors and his family as well are sure that it is rea! lly him.

Globálne oteplenie spôsobilo sťahovanie medúz

Najväčšia medúza na svete, jedovatá medúza nomura, narastá až do šírky dvoch metrov a môže dosahovať váhu až 200 kilogramov. Rybári v japonskom zálive Wakasa sú na ne oprávnene nahnevaní, pretože keď sa im tieto obludy zamotajú do sietí, zabíjajú ryby, a tak dokážu jednoducho pokaziť celý úlovok. Niektorí rybári to už dokonca vzdali a prestali rybárčiť. Tvrdia, že pohľad na medúzu v sieti je nesmierne depresívny. Tento rok je roj medúz snáď najhorš&! #237;. Zatiaľ čo v minulosti boli obrovské medúzi raritou, ktorá sa objavila raz za 40 rokov, dnes sa objavujú takmer každý rok, a to po celej dĺžke japonského pobrežia, ktoré má niekoľko tisíc kilometrov. Vedci veria, že zvýšený výskyt obrovských medúz pri poberží je spôsobený klimatickou zmenou. Oteplenie oceánov umožilo takmer dvom tisícom druhov medúz pohnúť sa zo svojich miest. Medúzy vážne poškodzujú rybárom i celému rybárskemu priemyslu v Japonsku, navyše po celom svete terorizujú ľudí, ktorí sa idú kúpať. Štúdia z rokku 2008 hovorí, že každoročne je poštípaných 500 tisíc ľudí, niektorí dokonca aj viac krát. Každoročne na uštipnutie med! 50;zou zomrie na Filipínach 20 až 40 ľudí.! V rok u 2007 roj tanieroviek svietivých, ktoré normálne žijú v teplých vodách Stredozemného mora, napadol lososiu farmu v Severnom Írsku a zabil viac ako 100 tisíc rýb. Bolo to práve oteplenie mora, čo umožnilo medúzam presunúť sa až do Írska. Nesmierne znečistené vody – napríklad pri pobreží Čína – spôsobili nárast planktónu, ktorý je potravou pre medúzy, avšak nadmerný rybolov eliminoval mnoho predátorov medúz. Vedci tvrdia, že zvýšený výskyt medúz je jasným dôkazom globálneho oteplovania a je pre nás zároveň varovným signálom toho, že naše oceány sú v nezdravom stave.

Jellyfish's migration because of global warming

The world's largest jellyfish, the venom of the Nomura, can grow up to 2 meters in diameter and weight up to 200 kilograms. Fishermen in Wakasa Bay in Japan are angry because such a creature can easily ruin a whole day's catch by killing fish when they get ensnared with them in the nets. Some fishermen have stopped fishing because seeing jellyfish in your nets is very depressing. This year the jellyfish swarm is really the worst. Giant jellyfish used to be a rarity occurring every 40 years, but now they are almost annual occurrence along Japanese coast which is thousands kilometers long. Scientist believe that climate change is the reason of increased occurrence of th! e giant jellyfish close to the ocean coasts. The warming of oceans made almost 2 thousands jellyfish species to move. Jellyfish are blamed for destroying fishing industries in Japan and terrorizing swimmers worldwide. A study held in 2008 says that 500,000 people are stung every year and 20 to 40 die each year in the Philippines from jellyfish stings. In 2007, the mauve stinger, a jellyfish normally living in warm Mediterranean waters, attacked a salmon farm in Norther Ireland and killed more than 100 thousands fish. The climate change allowed the jellyfish to migrate. Highly polluted waters – for example off China – caused growth of the plankton which is good nutrition for jellyfish, but overfishing eliminated many of the jellyfish's predators. Scientists say increased occurrence of jellyfish is a clear evidence of global warming and it is also a warning sign that our oceans are unhealthy.

Space hotel ready for guests as soon as 2012

According to the architects the first space hotel in history will be ready to welcome first visitors as soon as 2012. However, not everyone will be able to afford such a luxury since the cost of three-night stay is about four million dollars. Naturally, one cannot travel to space without a proper preparation and so the price will include also eight-week training course. The Galactic Suite Space Resort was designed by Spanish architects who claim three years is enough time to complete this more than ambitious project. The Galactic Suite Ltd CEO Xavier Claramunt is convinced space travel has a great future before it. 'It's very normal to think that your children, possibly wi! thin 15 years, could spend a weekend in space,' he said. One is willing to take his words seriously considering the fact that the first commercial spaceport in the world is being built in New Mexico. Spaceport America is expected to be completed in 2010. Up to now six suborbital missions have already been launched from the port successfully. The company behind the development of the port is Virgin Galactic, owned by British industrialist Sir Charles Branson who plans to use it for providing suborbital spaceflights for paying public. One ride will cost you about $200,000. The Galactic Suite Ltd plans to start with single pod or capsule that could hold four guests and two pilots. "When the passengers arrive in the rocket, they will join it for 3 days, rocket and capsule. With this we create in the tourist a confidence that he hasn't been abandoned.
